Palermo’s has worked with catering halls, restaurants, and banquet halls throughout the past 25 years. Venues that include a cake within your party package usually provide a basic sheet cake or a selection of buttercream tiered cakes. Before beginning your cake selection process, it is best to ask your caterer what exactly they are providing for your event.
Q: What exactly is my caterer providing for my event?
A: Depending on your event and the package you have selected, your catering may provide you with a sheet cake or a tiered cake. Please confirm with the caterer as to what exactly they are providing.
Q: Do you offer tastings and is it possible to come in and look at your different cake design options?
A: We provide complimentary tastings and consultations on premise at our 187 Main St Ridgefield Park office. We take appointments seven days a week but availability on certain days is limited so scheduling in advance is always best. Consultations normally take 30 minutes to an hour. Keep in mind we do not rush any of our consultations, so there may be a wait time even with an appointment. We request that groups are kept small as we are normally only able to accommodate up to four (4) guests per appointment. Please give us a call at (201) 641-1654 if you wish to schedule an appointment for an upcoming event.
Q: If I want to come in for a consultation, how long before my event should we book and what should I bring?
A: We recommend coming in two to three months before your event. For upcoming weddings, the best time to come in is after you have selected your color scheme, flowers, and wedding dress. Please bring any color swatches that you wish to incorporate into the design. If you have a topper, it may be useful to bring that in as well.
Q: Do I have to schedule an appointment? What if I want to just do this over the phone?
A: We understand that many people live very busy lives, so coming in to see us is not always feasible. This is why we have dedicated a part of our website to explaining how the cake process works when ordering through a partner catering hall. We have a dedicated photo gallery on our website (attach link here that has tiered and sheet cakes) that showcases different designs that are normally included. Brides and grooms, please view our wedding cake options (attach link). Once you have chosen a design, it would be possible to give us a call and process the cake order by phone with one of our talented cake consultants. Also, our FAQ page answers most cake questions that normally come up. If you have any other questions about the process, you can reach out to one of our cake consultants by phone or email.
Q: My wedding cake is included by my venue, what are my options?
A: Palermo’s provides an iced buttercream cake in a white or ivory colored base. If you wished to add some color, we can match most accent colors in scrollwork, piping, or ribbon trim. Most venues provide a three or four tier wedding cake, but all sizes are based on the order specifications from your venue. We cannot guarantee what the size of your cake will be if you decide to go with a standard package cake. We have provided an assortment of example designs of buttercream wedding cakes to choose from in our wedding cake package.
Q: Can I change the design of the cakes within my package/can I show you a photo of a cake I like?
A: We have no problem accommodating different design requests. Please ask one of our cake consultants if the design or photo you had in mind could be made within the package that the caterer includes. If it is not included, we could still create a cake based on your design specifications at an additional cost.
Q: The cake topper...do I need one?...I have one but who do I give it too?...What size should it be?
A: With the limitless amount of cake design options, it is really a personal choice of whether or not to purchase a cake topper. It may be best to finalize the cake design first, and then decide if a topper is right for you. If you do decide on having a topper, you are to provide it to your venue where it will be placed on top of your cake before being displayed. For topper sizing, please speak to one of our cake specialists for more information.
Q: What is additional, what is an upgrade?
A: To meet the increasing demand for couture wedding cake designs, we at Palermo’s also specialize in high-end fondant work, jewelry adornments, and gumpaste flower work. It is more than possible to upgrade your package wedding cake with such design specifications at an additional cost. For pricing and upgrade information, please reach out to a Palermo cake specialist by phone or email.
